Anti-lift rods test for Saltus Poles shade net installations

Saltus Poles conducted tests on pull-out load (vertical lift load) of internal shade net structure poles.  This was done to understand the wind force needed to lift an internal pole in a shade net structure.  Recent storms lifted timber poles vertically and we wanted to understand the forces involved.  At Saltus Poles we would like to give guarantees on our structures and therefore the following tests benchmarking ourselves against timber.

The test results:

  1. Timber pole without anti-lift rod (filled hole with sand): 150kg pull-out load;
  2. Saltus pole with 1 anti-lift rod (filled hole with sand): 210kg pull-out load;
  3. Saltus 78mm pole with 2 anti-lift rods in cross (filled hole with sand): 300kg pull-out load;
  4. Saltus 78mm pole with 2 anti-lift rods in cross (filled hole with sand and rocks): 500kg pull-out load.

Saltus Poles therefore recommends two anti-lift rods (installed as a cross) for each shade net structure pole in high wind velocity areas.  As a minimum, the holes must be filled with sand, but more preferably, the holes must be filled with sand and rocks covering the anti-lift rods.
